Pair it with the cadence guide only when cadence is connected to a specific problem such as overstriding. A number by itself is not a diagnosis.
Strength belongs where it interferes least with the key run. My default is to place runner-specific strength training after an already demanding day, preserving truly easy days for adaptation. Before faster running, use a short sequence from the running warm-up guide. Add strides before adding a second hard workout; they introduce speed with less fatigue.
Calculators should reduce guessing, not overrule the run. The cadence calculator organizes step-rate observations, while the existing pace calculator translates a recent performance into starting ranges. For longer events, the carb-loading calculator and sweat-rate calculator solve fueling and hydration questions that the weekly schedule cannot answer.
Move into a formal race plan only when the current week is repeatable. You should be able to complete the planned frequency for several weeks, recover between ordinary runs, and finish most easy days with something left. Consistency is the qualification for complexity; enthusiasm alone is not. If one long run disrupts the following three days, another interval session is not progression. Repeat the base week, shorten the long run, or remove intensity until the pattern becomes stable.
A training block also needs an exit rule. Stop progressing when pain changes your gait, normal paces require unusually high effort for several runs, sleep and mood deteriorate together, or performance falls despite more work. One poor run is noise. A cluster of signals is information. Reduce load early, preserve the habit, and rebuild from the last week your body handled well.
Finally, equipment should support the plan rather than define it. Use the running gear guide when weather, carrying, visibility, or shoe rotation becomes the actual constraint. If none of those constraints is present, keep the week simple: mostly easy running, one purposeful stressor, enough recovery, and a progression you can repeat.
